Air Fried Broccoli

Broccoli in an air fryer comes out similar to roasted in the oven, but a little more crispy. It also takes less time than oven roasted broccoli, so is great for quick preparation and summertime when you might not want the oven on. Broccoli is an easy vegetable to fix and pretty versatile in use, and air fried broccoli is great for convenience (it’s fast) as well as ease of preparation.

I don’t like air fried veggies to be super crispy, so I use a lower heat for a longer time. If you’re pressed for time (“I need a vegetable in 10 minutes!”) you can certainly increase the heat a bit and decrease the time.

Air Fried Broccoli:
2 crowns Broccoli, chopped
2 tsp Oil
1 tsp Seasoning salt

About the Ingredients (and Modifications)

Most of the florets I chop off the large stem (leaving the floret’s stem on) and leave whole. The bigger ones toward the bottom of the plant can be cut in half or thirds. When you are left with just the inside stem of the broccoli, chop it up and use it too! (Optional, of course, but I hate to waste this part and it tastes really good!)

Use whatever oil you prefer here – I do olive, but avocado is great too, or whatever your preference is. I usually do seasoning salt, but this can easily be interchanged for something else for a different flavor. Some other options would be:

  • salt, italian seasoning
  • salt & black pepper
  • just salt
  • salt & paprika
  • add minced garlic
  • add lemon/lime juice

The Process

Put the chopped broccoli and stems in the air fryer bowls. Holding it at an angle so the pieces all roll together on a side or a corner, drizzle the oil on. Try to get it spread out instead of just in one spot – you don’t want it to all run through the holes in the air fryer basket. Now sprinkle on the salt or whatever spices you want, and shake it.

Turn the air fryer to 300 degrees and cook 15 minutes. I like to shake it again half way through. This isn’t needed, but the edges of some of the broccoli bites will be crispier if you don’t shake it.

Tip it out into a bowl or directly onto plates and serve.
