Homemade Seasoning Salt

Have you ever read the ingredients list on seasoning salt? Most brands contain sugar, a preservative (or several), oil, and sometimes even corn starch. I prefer to have none of the above, and therefore came up with my own recipe. It tastes far better than any I have purchased, is super easy, has a wide variety of uses, and is inexpensive. All in all, a great thing to DIY!

I don’t like to use sugar as an everyday ingredient, and certainly don’t think it belongs in my salt. This recipe for seasoning salt is simply what it claims: seasoning and salt. The salt portion is about 2/3 of the finished product, so if you are on a low-sodium diet it would be easy to replace your regular salt with this in a lot of applications. We use it on oven fries, roasted veggies like asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli, etc, stir fries, as well as in baking recipes. A single batch makes about 1/3 cup.

Homemade Seasoning Salt
¼ cup Salt (sea salt, pink Himalayan salt, whatever your preference is)
1 Tbsp Garlic powder
1 Tbsp Onion powder
1 tsp Paprika
½ tsp Black pepper
¼ tsp Chili powder

Simply dump all your ingredients in a bowl, stir, and you’re done! Keep it in a jar in your cupboard for several months. Please note – as it has no “anti-caking” agents or starches in it, the salt will clump up over time. If needed, just use your measuring spoon to loosen some up as you use it.
